The Season Our Rishis Called Chaaturmas

There is a reason the seekers of this land have always turned inward when the rains arrive.

Our ancient Rishis called this — Chaaturmas.

Chaaturmas means the four sacred months. Every year, as the monsoon arrives, nature slows and invites us to stop moving outward, and begin the journey within.

For thousands of years, the seekers of Bharat honoured this rhythm and gave it to sadhana through:

  • Self Study
  • Contemplation
  • Meditation
  • Quiet Inner Change

Self Study

Also called Svadhyay.

Self Study (Svadhyay) is far more than reading a scripture. It is letting timeless wisdom reflect your own life back to you. Each week you will:

Read slowly Pause deeply Reflect honestly Meditate sincerely Live consciously

What does Self-Study do to us?

When knowledge becomes lived experience, transformation begins.

It purifies the mind

It turns knowledge into experience

It steadies and awakens you

It makes the truth your own

This year, Gurudev Sri Anish invites you to walk the timeless path through Self-Study — a chance to pause, deepen your practice, and journey toward your own Self.

Three Threads of Your Monsoon Sadhana Journey

Self-Study

Self-Study · Svadhyaya

Each week, Gurudev's commentary (Karika) on the Mandukya Upanishad will be shared with the Sadhaks for self-study, reflection, and contemplation.

Sangha

Sangha

Every week you gather online with fellow seekers in a facilitator-led Sangha to share insights and support one another. Walking together keeps the flame alive.

Meditation

Daily Meditation

Every day, throughout the Sadhana, practise Gurudev's guided Om — the Para-Beej mantra — meditation. The daily nourishment that carries the whole journey.

Study nourishes understanding. Sangha nourishes the heart. Meditation turns both into direct experience.

Mandukya Upanishad

Simple in length. Infinite in depth.

Mandukya Upanishad — ॐ

The shortest of all the Upanishads — yet revered as their very essence. In just twelve mantras, it reveals:

  • ॐ — the Para-Beej, the supreme seed-sound
  • The four states of consciousness
  • The nature of the Self
  • The truth of non-duality

"ॐ is not a sound you chant. It is the ground you stand on." — Gurudev Sri Anish

Svadhyaya / Self-Study

Each week, Gurudev's commentary (Karika) on the Mandukya Upanishad will be shared with the Sadhaks for self-study, reflection, and contemplation.

Walk this Sadhana with seekers around the world.

New to the path or walking it for years — this journey welcomes you. No prior knowledge of Sanskrit or Vedanta is needed. Only one thing is essential:

जिज्ञासा

A sincere longing to know.

Listening to satsang is not enough — its peace fades. Svadhyaya is to take a truth, contemplate it, and live it.
— Gurudev Sri Anish
Lord Vishnu's Yog Nidra

When Lord Vishnu Turns Inward

Our tradition tells us that during Chaaturmas, Lord Vishnu enters Yoga Nidra. This is not ordinary sleep — it is a conscious turning inward, a time of renewal and purification.

Even the sustainer of the universe withdraws for inner alignment. For us too, Chaaturmas becomes an invitation — not to abandon life, but to carry our responsibilities and consciously make space for our own growth.

"Vishnu's Yoga Nidra is not sleep — it is the cleansing of consciousness."
— Gurudev Sri Anish
